Creating 400fps continuous oners to bring historical paintings to life for Budapest’s latest landmark exhibition was a massive undertaking. Our team provided on-set supervision across real locations and full-bluescreen sound stages, alongside 3D scanning sets and environments for previz, camera tracking, and set extensions. With frame counts averaging 2,000 frames per shot, the epic battle sequences were fully realized digitally—synthesizing complex crowd simulations, atmospheric pass, digital environments, destruction, and full FX while faithfully preserving the composition, lighting, and painterly mood of the original artwork.

From a bare studio stage to legendary sacrifice. We shot high-speed practical action on set, then built a sprawling digital environment modeled directly after classic Hungarian historical paintings to match every brushstroke of light and atmosphere.
To achieve this, we combined practical studio plates with extensive digital environment extensions and 3D crowd systems. Live-action actors filmed on blue screen sets were integrated into CG fortress walls, vast landscapes, and dense battlefields. High-speed capture at up to 400 frames per second preserved every subtle detail of movement, smoke, and debris, giving us complete control over the pacing across the long camera moves.
Maintaining the lighting and mood across such extended shots required layering the digital elements to match the reference paintings precisely. By blending practical foreground action with 3D crowd passes and custom environmental setups, the team kept the visual style consistent across every single frame of the siege.
